Sundays are my favorite day of the week. My mind, body, and spirit reset in every way. It's an opportunity to ground my intentions, reflect on the past week, and physically prepare our home for what's to come - Monday - Friday!
It feels like a great time in space to share what I've been listening to, what I'm watching, what I'm reading, and what concerns me.
This week's quote: "Two things can be true at once." This statement has helped me to let go of being married to one perspective or another, wanting things to be black or white, and also having to walk down one path or another for the sake of going along to get along.
I saw Amanda Seales Friday night at Big Laugh Comedy Club in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She asked the crowd, "Y'all, what are we going to do about this election?" Several of the openers also joked about the topic and the two contenders. The most popular perspective is that people aren't happy with their choices. I am here to remind myself and others that two things can be true at once. While you may not be satisfied with the choices, please exercise your right to vote in November.
I am happy to support Amanda, especially after the brutal viral beating she has received in the last month. She was very vulnerable in admitting all of the shenanigans hurt her feelings. She also acknowledged how difficult and brave one must be to be a public figure with sustenance. Why do we give the people who fight for us such a hard time? Yet, Sexy Red is playing over and over on the radio. I digress.
"Two things can be true at once.”
Here's what I've been listening to, what I'm watching, what concerns me, and what I'm reading. I hope you find some goodies in the mix. I would love to hear back from you in the comments.
What I'm listening to
On Purpose, with Jay Shetty's podcast episode - 8 steps to overcoming fear of judgment & 3 key questions to level up in the next three months (90-day check-in ) - Jay expands on the quote I mentioned above by reminding us that we are all paradoxical. He asks three questions that help to reflect on how we not only view ourselves but how we view others.
Cowboy Carter has been on repeat. I can listen to the whole album from top to bottom. I don't have a favorite song yet. The album is one of my favorite Queen Bey albums.
Also, SiR is a new favorite! His sound is a complete vibe. I was late to the party because he already has features with so many greats.
I enjoyed The Truth About Cortisol episode with Rachel Sanders on Girlboss Radio. I resonated with the 2 o'clock slump and the need to do something about it! As a mom, my second shift starts when school gets out, so I need a second burst of energy. Her guest, Rachel Sanders, shares how she combats sleepless nights and low-energy days.
What I’m watching
Why didn't anybody tell me about First Wives Club on Netflix? Netflix has been recommending it for months, but I have just hit play. I love it! I have binged it over the last week and will likely finish it this evening. I can relate to all three main characters: black, married, millennial, and professionally successful. They go through the ups and downs, separations, divorce threats, affairs, raising kids, temptations, extended family issues, therapy sessions, and so much more real shit marriage brings about. If you've indulged, let me know your thoughts. Did you like it? Am I setting myself up wishing for a 4th season?
What I’m reading
The Way Forward by Yung Pueblo continues to shine in this season of my light. The small excerpts are always right on time and a reminder that moving forward is okay.
I also enjoy Yung Pueblo's Substack.
What concerns me
The conversation around canceling DEI at higher education institutions and within corporations concerns me. I am unsure of the more significant impacts, but a larger agenda exists. I am concerned that we are not paying attention enough. I'll be doing my research to learn more about the implications. But I'm certainly side-eyeing all of it. What are your thoughts?
I hope you have enjoyed reading the first edition of Easy Like Sunday Mornings.
All the best,
