Hello beautiful,
Happy Self-Care September!
I pray you are well wherever you may be in the world. You are here in this moment—to breathe in and breathe out. As the summer comes to a close, I wanted to share some reads, things to watch, and insight into other life updates.
How exciting is it to witness the first black woman of color be nominated for the President of the United States?
When I launched TBE in 2020, our first coffee mug had a quote from Kamala inscribed on it. The feeling is mutual, and the energy remains the same.
This has been the best summer I’ve had as a mother of two and maybe my entire life. From Memorial Day to now Labor Day, the shared moments have been nothing short of a blessing. I don’t take any of it for granted; God is the sole reason. It is also a testament to God being in the details of your prayers. Be specific about what you want, sis. God can blow your mind.
Have you ever looked around, realized that you’re entering a new chapter, and felt the gravity of it all? That’s how life currently feels. I am taking it all in, deeply feeling.
I’ll try not to flood this post as if it were social media, but I do want to share the beauty of this summer with you. I have lived my share of not-so-pleasant seasons, so hopefully, this will be a reminder that trouble doesn’t always last.

Not one but two beach vacations with both sides of our family. My happy place!
My wellness journey continues! The struggle is very real, but I am making progress. On the #roadto40, as I’ve dubbed it - I learned more about myself than I could have imagined. Last week, I kicked off a 30-day wellness challenge, an accountability group with some ladies. Perhaps the 2nd most real aspect of changing your lifestyle is surrounding yourself with people who have similar goals. Shout out to the ladies in the Fall Wellness Challenge! This is not at all about perfection but consistency. Here are three ways I’ve been successful on my health journey thus far.
I work out 5-6 days a week. What I’ve learned is that you can always fit something into your schedule—whether it's a 30-minute walk or a full workout. You can do something. It’s the ideals that will catch us up every time. Do something!
It’s true - you will never outwork a poor diet.
Writing out a plan for your diet and exercise works! On Sundays I plan both for the week.
It's the end of an era for Shop BrownStone. In June, I had a blowout inventory sale at the Hair & Glam Self-Care Festival. It was a huge success! The ladies came, saw, and conquered!
I visited my dear girlfriend for an overnight trip. We had dinner and went to an outdoor summer concert—priceless!
Our family’s first trip to Disney World was ah-mazing! We were so fortunate to land during Hurricane Debby, which hit the outskirts of Orlando but not the area directly. The rain caused us to have little to no crowds and lines, and the overcast kept the Disney heat at bay. It was truly an experience of a lifetime!
I hope you have also enjoyed your family and friends over the summer. Exhale.
Books -
I am starting The Alchemist today as my birthday approaches. My niece and I are going to journey through it together. I couldn’t think of a better time than now.
If you haven’t read it before - here’s an article on why you should consider it.
I Did A New Thing by Tabitha Brown is an interesting read. If you tend to be indecisive and fearful of trying new things, this may be a good choice. Brown shares how trying something changed her life’s trajectory.
Bakari Sellers is one of my favorite commentators. He represents us so well. I will pick up his book My Vanishing Country in the coming weeks. It’s been on my shelf for a while. With the election coming at us so fast, I think it will help to ground my thoughts around class, politics, and race.
Podcasts - I’ve listened to some incredible podcasts lately! I’ll try to keep it short!
Deeply Well by Devi Brown - A quick astrology update for the end of summer
Brick by Brick by TBE episode featuring Shon Simon (shameless plug)
TV/Streaming -
I am obsessed with The Resident on Netflix!
Inside Out 2 is a new favorite!
Despicable Me 4
I’ve hit record on Abby Phillips' nightly news now, too. I love her style and panel selections. Intentionality is so important this season.
Don’t hesitate to hit reply and say hi or share your thoughts.
I am sending you good vibes for the week ahead!
All the best,
Feleccia Conway Turner
