Hey y'all, Happy Sunday.
This week, or last week, was easygoing. I spent some time over the weekend doing the usual housekeeping and prepping for a new week. My patience might have been a little short because I'm actively engaging in a new lifestyle. I will share more soon, but I'm just settling into a new relationship with a health coach. She tells me what to eat, when to eat, when to work out, and what to do for each workout. If this sounds like a lot, it is. But I'm determined to put health first. I need help and believe in getting (hiring) help when necessary.
Other than that, "I ain't doing no complaining." - Jeezy.
So, how are y'all doing?
I can't express how grateful I am to be on the other side of such a transformational season. I'm excited to share more on a more intimate level via the podcast that's coming soon.
This week's quote - "What do I really want? And what is my spirit telling me is the best way to proceed?" - Oprah Winfrey. Have you ever known what you want to do but are still figuring out how to proceed? What do you do when this happens? What does it look like?
I understand the common sayings about who and when to share details about your life. But I'm referring to something else. T.D. Jakes spoke about having a vision for the next phase of your life and envisioning it for yourself. It's a great sermon if you're interested in watching or listening.
"What do I really want? And what is my spirit telling me is the best way to proceed?"
- Oprah Winfrey.
Moreover, here's what I've been listening to, what I'm watching, what I'm reading, and what concerns me. As always, I hope you find some goodies in the mix.
What I'm listening to:
This episode of Morgan Debaun's podcast, The Journey, is a must-listen! Around the 23-minute mark, Morgan and her guest start to discuss societal pressures and standards for diet, body image, and popular trends. Morgan shared that around 30% of the women in her life are taking some form of Ozempic! Just know you are not alone, whether taking it or going for a healthy lifestyle naturally. It was such a great conversation. Let me know what you think.
Whew! Sarah Jakes Roberts' podcast episode with Victoria Washington is also good as gold. They discuss finances and dive a little deeper into what our spending style says about us. I learned quite a bit and want to know more about Victoria's approach. Did you know that 1 in 5 black women file for bankruptcy? Victoria also shares some uncommon advice about wealth building.
On the treadmill, Renaissance was on repeat. Cheat code - if you have yet to listen to Renaissance while doing cardio, you're missing out. But also, Kirk Franklin's All Things blessed my spirit this week.
What I'm watching:
Remember last week when I mentioned wanting to know more about DEI? Oddly enough, I ran across this segment from a former CNN broadcast. My takeaway is that America still has a problem. We aren't truly ready to address the real issues. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Hotel Transylvania 1 &2 on Netflix with Emory and Sage.
I enjoyed this conversation between Nick Cannon and Dr. Umar Johnson. I am proud of Nick's work around mental health and black people holistically. We are not a monolith, so I appreciate it when different perspectives are shared.
What I'm reading:
I have been submersed in other writers' Substacks lately. I removed Instagram and Facebook from my phone a couple of weeks ago, allowing me more time to do what I love versus mindlessly scrolling. Here are a few publications you might enjoy as well -
Caitlin's Newsletter. A newsletter about awakening the human conscience and envisioning a healthy world.
What concerns me:
Iran? Israel? Gaza? Not so much? Yeah, I know.
Not being able to eat pasta and bread for the foreseeable future.
Sending you love and light for the week ahead.
