Dear TBE Community,
In the latest episode of Brick by Brick, I had the pleasure of sitting with Dr. Aletha Miller, a psychologist, mother, wife, and empowerment coach. Dr. Miller shared her journey of self-discovery and provided invaluable insights on embracing one's unique strengths and navigating life's challenges.
Dr. Miller took us on a journey from insecurity to empowerment that I believe will resonate with many of you.
Dr. Miller's story begins in childhood when she was nicknamed the "Jolly Green Giant" due to her height. This experience could have been a source of lasting insecurity, but instead, it became a catalyst for her journey toward self-acceptance and empowerment. You will find inspiration in how Dr. Miller transformed her perceived weakness into a strength.
One of the most intriguing concepts Dr. Miller introduced was the idea of being "perfectly imbalanced." I found this perspective shift incredibly freeing. How many of us have struggled with the impossible standard of perfect work-life balance? Dr. Miller suggests a different way to look at your full plate.
When it comes to discovering your superpower, Dr. Miller offered practical steps that I'm excited to implement in my own life:
1. Stop committing to people who aren't committed to your purpose
2. Cease comparing yourself to others
3. Shift from competition to collaboration
I was particularly struck by Dr. Miller's story of discovering her calling in middle school. It made me reflect on my own journey and the early signs of my passion for connecting with people through fashion, beauty, and wellness. Be encouraged to reflect on your life and identify those moments that hint at your unique strengths.
The conversation also touched on the challenges faced by Black women in professional settings. Dr. Miller's advice to stand firm in one's purpose is a powerful reminder for anyone facing adversity in their career.
One of my favorite takeaways from the episode was about our ability to shift energy in any room. Dr. Miller emphasized the power of authentic compliments and positive presence. I'm challenging myself to be more intentional about this, and I invite you to do the same.
Throughout the episode, you’ll find yourself nodding along with Dr. Miller's insights and perhaps even having a few "aha" moments of their own. Her message that "We don't have to solve every problem. We can just be who we were called to be" is both liberating and empowering.
What parts of Dr. Miller's message resonate with you? How will you embrace your superpower this week?
I encourage you to listen to the full episode. Dr. Miller's warm presence and practical wisdom create a truly amazing experience.
Until next time, keep building brick by brick.
All my best,
Feleccia
